One month ago, when I was arriving at my High School I discovered this piece of modern art at the entrance of the Lion Walk in the Alameda Park.

It was a very innovating iniciative to celebrate the International Day World Wood Day. With the slogan “Change your mood: activate the wood mood” this campaign try to raise social awareness about the importance of the trees in our life. It consisted of sharing a phothograh on Instagram with the hashtag #1foto1arbore, for each one the local goverment will plant a tree. I consider that it´s a very good way to involve and educate younger citizens about the importance of living in a green environment, respecting and caring for native species just as they take care of us.

The building at the bottom of the image was the pride of the Galician Government 30 years ago. The Galician Pavillion in the World Fair of Sevilla in 1992 is located today in a hidden corner of San Lázaro neighborhood. The building is surrounded by a big garden that has been abandoned.

Nobody seems to know it and in fact, I´ve been there several times with no one in there. Apart from being a heaven of peace, the area is full of secrets.

As all the entrances to a secret garden, this granite sculpture is hidden by lush undergrowth. It is only the first monumet that we meet on our way. A big roman mosaic with the symbols of Compostela, a giant pilgrim, a kind of warrior hidden in a forest… are some of the treasures that you can discover in this walk.

There is no doubt that Galicia has extraordinary architectural richness, particularly, if we bear in mind the outstanding diversity of dolmens, a mere glimpse of the significant Neolithic funerary culture found in the region.

In Coruña, if you wish to visit a dolmen, an awesome choice is Tordoia, located in the parish of Cabaleiros. This region can show off their rich heritage as there lies The Witch´s House. This is what the locals call “their dolmen”. Once upon a time a witch from a faraway land is said to have held an immense slab over her head while weaving a dress.

This relic is one of the best preserved in Galicia and it is dated from 3000BC. It was declared artistic historical monument in 1975 and more and more people are captivated by its spellbinding call effect, consequently, guided visits are soaring considerably.
